After announcing its national teams, the Vanuatu Basketball Federation is proudly introducing you the players that will fly Vanuatu’s flag in Samoa to the 3x3 basketball competition.
To start our Male's team presentation, this one will make you close your legs. Today let’s find out more about Jared « Nutmeg » Ova, the Mele native player, that will be participating to his first Pacific Games.
Jared started to play 3x3 basketball not long ago, back in 2017 to prepare for the Pacific Mini-Games on the home ground in Port-Vila.
“I started training with the National Team since the beginning of the 3x3 game in 2017. The preparation was very difficult because we started after cyclone Pam which we haven't got good facilities : no lights at night, no roof during rain time so this is how far we came from.”
He knows that the recent achievements of the National Teams and their participation to the two last 3x3 Asia Cup got him definitely more confident to play with the National Team.
“Today we have 1 bronze medalist team for girls and 2 international participation on 3x3 Asia cup, So I'm confident that we are more than prepared.”
However, it’s not the first time that the nutmeg specialist will be wearing the National Team jersey.
“I've worn the National Team Uniform 2 times in the 3x3 Asia cup (2018 & 2019 editions) and it is an honour to wear it again for Apia.”
But for the 32 year-old showtime player, it is more than these Games, as he hopes to inspire an entire generation
“I feel that I'm contributing on giving hope to the next generation that we can be professional athletes if we want deep down inside of us, no matter in what discipline we are in, the dream can be real if we trust ourselves that we can do it."
He is pretty clear on his team’s intention in Samoa
“The Objective? Grab a Medal and bring it back home”
