A group of 8 young female 3x3 players from New Caledonia arrived in Port Vila on Good Friday for 6 rounds of friendlies with the Vanuatu’s 3x3 National Women's Squad on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st at the Korman stadium Complex.
The teams were led by Jean- Marc DELAVEUVE as the coach of the NC national women 3x3 Team and Sacha DUTHU as coach for the VU national women’s team.
"These friendly games helped us to see how we are going in our preparation. We faced very good basketball players, that play all year long and have been developed since their early age" Sacha DUTHU, the National Team coach, said
NC teams were split into 2 teams while VU formed only 1 team. The first day of the friendly saw team Vanuatu taking on the NC team 2 and Winning NC (9-4).Vanuatu came to loose its second game with NC team 1 (9-11) but came back with a strong finish in the third game of the day winning NC (7-5).
Day 2 saw Team NC fighting back and displaying a much greater physical game than day 1. A sensational burst of scoring hauled the Ni-van girls back within striking distance. At the end of the day, NC came to win 2 of their games and lost only once to team Vanuatu.
"The purpose of the games was not to win or to lose. We said before that week-end that we will be able to identify the key area of working for us for the upcoming months before the games" The french native added
Following the games, the National Team final list that will travel to China to feature in the 2019 3x3 Asia Cup was announced.
Frances IZONO, Pauline MALANGA, Nancy PATTERSON and Jessie MALVERUS will try to make it to the Competition's Main Draw, but Philipines, Samoa and Taïwan will be on their way in Changsha (China)
